Marble

Marble is one of the natural treasures of our planet. Surfaces made from different marbles have graced homes, buildings and high art since Ancient times. In nature, marbles begin life as a limestone. When exposed to high temperatures and intense geological pressure, re-crystallisation occurs. Calcite, fossilised materials and carbonate emerge, changing the limestone into a marble.

Time-honoured beauty and associations with high culture give this beautiful stone it’s value. Michelangelo’s David was sculpted from stone sourced in Italy’s prized Carrara region. Many of Italy’s other treasured buildings and art have it featured as a building and finishing material. As a timeless product, marble will continue to dominate interior design and architecture trends for many lifetimes.

Marble performs well as a solid surface in many applications. It can last many lifetimes as a benchtop, vanity, office fit out, wall covering, floor tiles and more.

Marbles are considered a softer stone than their natural stone counterparts, granites and quartzites. This means more vulnerability to etching, staining and abrasion. It can dull and etch when exposed to acids, especially commonly used acids like lemon juice, wine and coffee. Regular sealing, use of chopping boards and other preventative measures can help you keep your marble looking like new.
